PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A detailed examination and analysis will be conducted of the neighborhood transportation systems within the boundaries of University Avenue, Mill Avenue, 13th Street, and Hardy Drive to develop solutions for reducing cut-through motor vehicle traffic while preserving bicycle, pedestrian, and transit access. Traffic calming devices, including speed humps, chicanes, and traffic circles were implemented on roads within the study area in 2008. Increased development in the vicinity of the study area, nearby construction activities, and new micro-mobility transportation options have placed more demand on Tempe’s roadways and additional traffic through the neighborhoods included in this study.

Solutions developed are intended to reduce driver speeds and propose new countermeasures to reduce cut-through traffic. The final Comprehensive Neighborhood Traffic Mitigation Plan and Project List will provide a “game plan” of countermeasures that can be implemented over time as resources become available.
